Hand pinched tea cup and saucer

This delightful tea cup and saucer have been handmade from stoneware clay. The cup is made by hand pinching a single piece of clay and finished on the top and inside with olive glaze. It is 9cm tall and holds 200ml. The saucer is approximately 16cm wide and made from a single rolled piece of clay. The irregular shape of the saucer is the shape it took on when rolled and is a reminder of the naturally irregular shape of a tree trunk cross section.

The reason that I enjoy making by hand is that each piece is unique. It retains marks and impressions made during construction, giving the owner a meaningful connection to the maker and the knowledge that the item they are using was happily made by another person.

The cup and saucer come packaged in degradable materials. They are not suitable for microwave or dishwasher use.
